First Presbyterian offers a wide variety of creative ways for children to grow in their faith. Our hope is that as families engage these opportunities, children become more connected to the church and to God, thus forming a faith that can sustain them for years to come.
On Sunday mornings - Thoughtful and creative Sunday School classes are offered for kids of all ages from 9:45-10:40 a.m., during the school year. Our loving, caring, Christian nursery caregivers, Miss Deborah and Miss Octavius staff our nursery from 9:30 a.m. until worship ends.
In our music - Two choirs are also available for our youngest voices - the "Calvin Choir" for preK4- 2nd graders and the "Chapel Choir" for 3rd -5th graders. They each rehearse on Sunday evenings and sing in worship four to five times a year.
In our worship - Both worship services include a children’s message: a brief story and prayer with our children. After the children’s time, children ages 3 – K may choose to attend our "Joy Worship" time, an age-appropriate time of worship with Bible story, songs and prayers led by trained volunteers during the remaining portion of worship. Each August we also provide a "Welcome to Worship Workshop" for families who wish to help their elementary aged kids sit through an entire worship service.
In our fellowship - Two afternoon programs provide a unique way for children to engage their faith. Kingdom Kids for preK- 3rd grade, meets on Sunday afternoons during the school year. Club 45, for our 4th and 5th graders, meets periodically throughout the year, playing games, doing service projects or traveling on an adventure.
Throughout the year - All kinds of activities pop up across the calendar. In October, children costume for the fun of trunk or treating and games at our Harvest Festival. In December, the whole church family engages their faith through our "Advent Event" where Santa is known to make an appearance. Traditional Easter Egg hunts are common in the Spring. Vacation Bible School is a time of faith discovery in the summer.
Weekday School - For almost 40 years First Presbyterian has been the host of a strong and vibrant weekday school for pre-school children. School operates from 9 a.m. to noon. Class days depend on age. Contact the church office for more information.
