First Presbyterian Church of Wilson is one of 130 churches belonging to the Presbytery of New Hope, which is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA) via the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic. Our church contributes to the work of the Presbytery with both financial support and the time and talent of elders who sit on many Presbytery committees. Elders, called commissioners, are also designated to attend and cast their votes at Presbytery meetings.
Presbyterian Church (USA) The Presbyterian Church (USA),with denominational offices in Louisville, Kentucky, has approximately 2.3 million members, more than 10,000 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers. The Presbyterian Church (USA) is distinctly a confessional and a connectional church. By confessional, we mean that we are guided by creeds and confessions established by the church across the years. By connectional, we mean connected to other Presbyterian churches in our denomination and to Christian churches around the world by the spirit of God. One mark of Presbyterian churches is our representational leadership. Elected elders – laymen and laywomen – work with clergy to guide and lead our church. We believe that all people, men and women, are called by God to serve the church and often are called to serve in leadership roles and ordained as elders, deacons, or ministers of word and sacrament.
